This is a well run business. The employees were friendly, the owner and our experience was great. I had the shrimp and oyster po boy and it was as good if not better than anywhere I have had. Great highway stop.

Best roast beef po boy I've had in a long time. The bread was super fresh, taste spot on, gravy perfect. Can't wait to try the shrimp po boy.

First off, this restaurant does not close at 9. They close at 8, which was very upsetting to us. We thought it closed at 9 so when we got there at 7:35, it was upsetting to realize their time was limited. The weirdest thing when we walked in, the owner kind of stared us down instead of asking if we needed help. We proceeded with our order anyway, all the while the owner and witness proceeded to close everything down. Truth be told, I really didn't feel comfortable. Anyway, we got our food, after it had been sitting for awhile and was very disappointed. We ordered a large shrimp poboy and cheese fries. The poboy was extremely small and and the shrimp were scarce. The one time I didn't take a pic and this is what I got. No way this was worth $16. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I will not be visiting this place again at no point in the near future.

Average to below average food. Too expensive for the low quality. We got a shrimp poboy, muffeletta, onion rings. French bread was good but amount of shrimp was small and breading falling off. Muffeletta cannot compare to Anthony's deli which is my fav in BR. Onion rings had all breading falling apart and swimming in grease. Staff were nice and friendly. Overall, probably will not come back.

Every time I go it's packed because it's so yummy! There is so much to choose from and the workers are so nice.

"Sometimes you want to go Where everybody knows your name, And they're always glad you came; You want to be where you can see, Our troubles are all the same; You want to be where everybody knows your name." This totally describes Rocco's. My husband and I were out and about running errands and we decided to try Rocco's for the first time. From the moment you walked in you could tell it was a well loved establishment. The staff knew every customer by name and what was their "usual" order for that day of the week. It was obvious that many of them came daily to eat. I love great customer service and I love a place where you can tell that people truly value your business. You nailed it Rocco's. We both ordered a hamburger and they were perfectly cooked and seasoned. We enjoyed every bite. I would definitely recommend Rocco's.

Solid New Orleans style poboys and HUGE menu selection -- as well as a selection of soups and salads. I love the soft shell crab poboy which is always full of a crunchy, meaty crab. Perfect pared with a cup of seafood gumbo - especially when it is a bit chilly out.

Had lunch on return trip home to Alabama. We're native Louisianians and judge native fare sternly. These are as good as you'll find and rival Chris' Poboys in Lafayette . Try them...you'll not be disappointed.

  • Cameron K.

Finally a real roast beef poboy in this city! It was perfect debris, but not for the garlic shy! Their gravy is full of garlic, which I love! The bread is just right and it was washed down nicely with a barqs root beer in a bottle! Im slightly disappointed by the amount of meat in my sandwich (the reason for the 4 stars.) but my dining partner got their club and It was full of meat, so I will try that next time! I can't wait to come back!

  • John L.

Extremely long wait to get red beans and rice. When I look into the window into the kitchen, all they are doing is talking and laughing in the kitchen. This has happened before and there were only 3 table of customers and they already had their food.

  • Paula R.

I love Rocco's. Everything on the menu is great. Treat yourself to their onion rings and BREAD PUDDING! They are both out of this world! The best in Baton Rouge, in my humble opinion. The service is always great too. Easy ordering, quick preparation and friendly staff. The location on Drusilla is a little dicy to get too just because of the crazy traffic. But you won't be disappointed!

Fantastic in every way. Roast beef poboys, chicken and sausage gumbo were spot on. Will be back.

First po'boy I've ever eaten. Instant love!! Poorly lit hole in the wall atmosphere.. Quality food at a great price.. Love, love...

  • Field M.

Best oyster poboy I've ever eaten! Food is very good but service is a little slow even when not busy. They always have a good crowd.

  • Michael P.

Fine for a po-boy, business lunch kind of thing. But in terms of "the best" this or that, or a particular item being someone's favorite, not so much. Way way overrated -- I think by people who just take the name (and advertising hype) at face value and think they are getting a classic New Orleans roast beef or fried seafood po-boy. Not. Lots and lots of the food here tastes right out of the freezer, and frequently cooked in oil that is not kept at the optimum temperature for frying. The difference between delicious fried food and a waste of calories and cholesterol is frying things at the ideal temperature and for the exact time, and that's simply not a priority here. Ate there often when it was close to business, but quite honestly never again.

    (2)
  • Lauren H.

I went here when I was in BR because I wanted to try a po'boy. When I looked over the menu however, none of the po'boys sounded appetizing so I decided to go with the seafood muffeletta. A gf and I decided to split a whole muffeletta and that thing was HUGE! I'm glad that I opted out on getting a side order of fries because I definitely had difficulty finishing my half of the muffeletta. The fried oysters and shrimp in the muffeletta was tasty but the olive mix that was used for it was a little overwhelming and I LOVE olives, so that's saying something.

  • Stacey H.

Rocco's has the best shrimp poboy in Baton Rouge! They make it right. The bread is perfect and they don't cake up the shrimp with a ton of batter. They use a cornmeal batter just the way it's suppose to be. You can actually taste the shrimp! Do yourself a favor and go there immediately!

  • Ken R.

Plenty of variety and taste here at Rocco's. Casual and friendly. Quick service and good prices too.

The roast beef po boy was sloppy, juicy and good. What stole my heart here was the gumbo mixed with potato salad. I was hesitant to try it but am glad I did. Great meal.

If you are looking for a New Orleans style po' boy in Baton Rouge, Rocco's is the place to go. I tend to only get three things from there, the debris gravy roast beef, the crescent city combo, and the hot sausage po' boy. My friends say the gumbo is good and every time my boss finds out I'm here he makes me bring him back a fried shrimp po' boy. It's not New Orleans, but it's close.

We came here w/ high expectation and left feeling disappointed in our little culinary adventure here at Rocco's Cafe. We came here specifically for the po-boys, roast beef and fried shrimp. We wanted to sample the best of what Rocco's has to offer when it comes to their po-boys. But at the end of the meal we were not impressed and left equally disappointed as we came in all excited. Chicken and Sausage Gumbo (Cup / $3.99) - The gumbo was too watery and didn't have much roux in it to give it that distinctive rich gumbo flavor. There weren't much of chicken or sausage in that gumbo and a search & rescue dive team would have left empty handed. Rocco's Roast Beef Po-Boy w/ Provolone Cheese (Whole / $9.49) - My biggest disappointment would be the bread. It was not fresh at all, the bread on both of our po-boys looked rather old, stale, and dry. The roast beef itself was good but so much was in bits and pieces that I had to eat it w/ a spoon. It was sloppy, messy, and tasty, but just not enough to win me back. Fried Shrimp Po-Boy (Whole / $9.99) - The bread...not anywhere near Leidenheimer's french bread in NOLA. The batter didn't hold up well and it was falling apart away from the shrimp. The more I bit into this shrimp po-boy the more I missed Po-Boys Express on Cedarcrest. Onion Ring Basket ($5.99) - WTF?! Did y'all fry this sucker in duck fat and drizzle w/ some truffle oil? Goodness gracious! Did the damn thing just suck up all the oil in the fryer?! What am I supposed to say to my cardiologist.......that it's organic?!

This place really should have a lot more people there every day. I love their catfish poboy. It is so fluffly and full of food and definitely worth the money. Delicious!

  • Paul S.

the fried shrimp po-boy was pretty good, I'll give them that. and I liked the chicken and sausage gumbo. but the muffaletta... you know the casing that is around bologna... the meat was sliced with the casing on. every few bites resulted in having a string of casing being pulled from the sandwich and left dangling from my mouth. the muffy was also really salty, like it should be, but this one was REALLY salty. I'm guessing it's from the quality/quantity of the meat. the place was clean and employees friendly.

I reviewed before about 2 years ago and gave 4 stars but I just can't do that this time. We went around 7:45pm on a Thursday and the place was bare. I asked what time they closed and I was told 9:00. However, they were cleaning the place and shutting down. I can understand wanting to get out early but they really made us feel unwanted. The couple we were with ordered only seconds before us, but they were brought their food super early and were done eating before we got our food. On top of that, one of the things they ordered was wrong. Our order came out correct. I did not like the roast beef sandwich that I got. My husband liked his sandwich but wasn't raving about it. I noticed he also took the generous portion of cheese off his sandwich. Being a cheese lover I went to gobble it up but quickly noticed something wasn't right about it. Anyway, the food isn't horrible and we all agreed we were happy to get full. The half sandwich is pretty big IMO. I felt the price was too high considering the quality of the sandwich.

  • John D.

Rocco's was a big disappointment for mainly two reasons. #1 was the portions... Said to be large by some Yelpers as well as the staff, did not hold to be true on our first visit. I know size is relative but I felt the half sandwich was more a quarter sandwich. The size wasn't much of a problem just a disappointment, but in relation to the price charged for a the small half sandwich created a huge problem for me which brings us to #2. The prices for what you get were borderline astronomical to me. Don't get me wrong, everyone's food was good, but calculate two half sandwiches, a small app and do it yourself service then you get a bill for $28!?! No way and never again is all I can say. Let me be fair though, I've already said the food was good, everything we tried that is, and the restaurant was clean and the service was acceptable. Though when I think about my experience and then the price I paid I can't understand how so many people enjoy Rocco's. I can't say I won't ever go back but I certainly won't on my dime.

I wanted something away from the chains so I decided to check this place out. I had their soup and 1/2 sandwich special. I started with the chicken and sausage gumbo; it tasted very good. For the sandwich, I had the Rocco's roast beef poboy, which tasted amazing. The beef was flavorful and the jus was just as good. I have had many roast beef poboys and none of them can even compare to this one. It really had that magic comfort food feeling. The interior is all right. They have a bar that you can eat at. So, this place is worth visiting.

We stopped here on our way home from vacation and had the most amazing food. We had the crawfish étouffée and gumbo and it was delicious! We have eaten Cajun/creole food all over Louisiana and this was as good as some of the best we've been to. Service was quick and the people who worked there were very attentive! Will keep it on our road trip bucket list!

The absolute best Roast Beef Po-boy in Baton Rouge!!! Period. I've tried them everywhere in BR and this place is holds it down proper. I can't eat them anywhere else and they have a new location on Government St. The service is always excellent!!!

  • Nikki F.

This was really great. We split a half oyster half shrimp po boy dressed. I could have used a bit more sauce and pickles but next time I will just ask for extra. The meat was super fresh and crunchy. The bread was spot on. Craving on now. OH NOOOO! The fried pickles were also really great. They came with ranch but I would get something else to dip them in. I like more flavor to combat the fried. The fries were crinkle cut and with the pickles and the sammys we did not even need them! Great meal.

  • Stephen H.

Rocco's as a whole is good, the burger: not so much. The burger was dry and plain. The fries are good though. I would reccomend the Crecent City Combo and Roast Peef Po'boy. The are both outstanding.

  • Knick M.

I love Rocco's roast beef poboy, it's a decent size and comes dressed like it should. More importantly you can't get through it without a stack of napkins. If you're nervous about the idea of a seafood muffeletta here's your chance to get over it. It's different but addictive.

You would think that since BR is so close to NOLA that they would share certain culinary culture. Overall, though, BR is not a great city to get a Po-Boy in. I had searched endlessly, looking for a true NOLA Po-boy (REAL French Bread, fresh seafood, the right amount of batter, etc.) As good as Chimes is for drinking, their Po-boys do not stand a chance against New Orleans best. Rocco's fixed this problem for me. Not quite the Parisols "hole-in-the-wall" but an older, well kept restaurant. Walk in, and on the left is the bar with a giant, beautiful mural of the skyline of New Orleans (perspecitve from Algiers). That set the tone for me the first time I walked in! Oyster Po-boy is a little pricey, but honestly they all seem to be that way now! Maybe $9 if memory serves me well. Another feature that New Orleanian transplants will appreciate is Barq's in a bottle. Yes, if you don't appreciate Barq's in a bottle than shame on you! Good French Bread, Oysters were very tasty, service was satisfactory, a solid place in BR to get a poyboy. Fridays during lent (obviously in South Louisiana) are very busy, but otherwise you generally can walk in and get a table. The negative? Location. The restaurant is hidden in the Drusilla corridor, and it is a pain to get to from anywhere accept the immediate Jefferson Hwy area. 15 mins from LSU, 20 mins from downtown, so not the quickest commute during a lunch break. Still, best po-boy in BR.

Oh hell yes...this is the final word in Po' Boys in BR. I am new to the area but sandwiches are taken pretty darn seriously where I was born and raised back in Buffalo, NY. Buff has a distinct demographic of Polish, Italian, German, and Irish (the Irish being the more of a consumer than a contributer to the great Buffalo Subs) fresh bread is a must but the cold cuts HAVE to be fresh. I then cut my teeth on legendary delis such as Katz's and 2nd Ave Deli in NYC...both absolutely mind blowing. After all of this my sandwich expectations are quite high and Rocco's ranks right up there with the best in my humble opinion. The service is great, the atmosphere nice and casual, and most of all they make a sandwich that is distinct in it's name and content. This is a must for out of towners and a regular trip for those of us lucky enough to regularly indulge in it's close proximity.

This is the Best Poboy shop in the area. I know Rocco personaly and know he gets his French Bread shipped in daily from the Big Easy. The fresh bread, quality meats and seafood is what helps them be number one in the buisness. The service is fast and friendly and the long neck Barqs with a sloppy roast beef poboy is my favorite. Try it you won't be sorry!
